 Magnesite

Magnesite is a form of magnesium carbonate, and it is the main source of magnesium. Solution containing magnesium reacts with calcite and turns it into magnesite. Therefore, magnesite also belongs to the calcite family. Magnesium-rich stones can turn into magnesite. Magnesite often contains iron, which is the result of iron or manganese substituting magnesium. Magnesite is white or gray, and glossy. Magnesite containing iron shows a yellow to brown color. It is grainy if crystalized and it is bulky if not crystalized. In addition to being used for extracting magnesium, magnesite is also used as a refractory material and a compound for producing magnesium.
